To find Lock Muick:
Cross the bridge leaving Ballater over the River Dee and turn right for Braemar. After approx half a mile, turn left, signposted ‘Glen Muick’. Follow the single-track road for a further 8 miles to the car park at the end of the road. Note: parking is £3.00 for cars, £15.00 for buses (correct as of September 2013) There are toilets and a visitor centre too, with a fab model landscape of the peaks around the area!
To find the cache!
There are two options: you can walk the length of Loch Muick on the far side to the car park and head up past the waterfall at the far end of the loch, behind the bothy, or you can follow the route up to Lochnagar, and on around the top edge of the corrie! Allow at least 3 hours to walk up to the cache location from the direct Lochnagar route, be careful on the rocky terrain, and take the usual extra hat, gloves, scarf to brace the winds at the top! Cache is hidden in a collection of large boulders and rocks, have picked a spot that looks like the rocks have been arranged like that for years, but still take care in case new weather has impacted on the movement of any boulders etc....
