Geocache Description:

This is a Lost Country School Cache, originally placed for The Gnomes Bewitching Cache Bash.  Due to placement options all LCS caches are within 1 mile of the school location.

This is a 5 stage multi but dont let that scare you away, there is alot of neat history included in this one and the stages are ALL VERY EASY as long as you have all the correct geotools!  ;)

At the first location you will need an item that allows you to see a great distance, look to the high line pole to the SW and you will see a yellow sign with 3 numbers (there is a space between the 1st and 2nd)  Stage 2 is at N 43 41.___ W 083 08.____.  Add the 1st number to 349 to get the north coord and subtract the 2nd and 3rd numbers (as though it was a 2 digit number) from 332 to get the west coord.

Stage 2 brings you to an item that would be easier to read if you could stop primping long enough to use your geotool.  Plug this into N 43 42.___ W 083 10.___ to take you to Stage 3.  Before you go, this is the location of the Dickout School.  It was located on the Arthur Moore farm and was later moved a half mile north to the George Jefferson farm.  It was closed and annexed to the Cass City District in 1942.

At Stage 3 brings you to the Rescue School.  A former student of this location recalls that every month the school windows were decorated with artwork colored or created by student and you can see it in the next picture.  She recalled at Christmas they made red and green garlands for the tree and Santa always came and brought each child a bag of peanuts, candy and an orange.  To find the next stage at N 43 41.___ W 083 13.___ you will take the year and subtract 1493 for the north coord.  Take the number of "wrong" items multiplied by 32 for the west coord.

Stage 4 brings you to Williamson School lot, not much is known about this location other than the list of teachers that taught here during the years of 1914-1942 when it closed.  At this location you will find a large tree, use your geotools to measure to the bottom of the lowest branch to get the answers for the final stage located at N 43 41.___ W 083 10.___.  Take 1,375, divide by the number of feet in you measurement and then add 1 to get the north coord.  Take 771 and add the number of inches for the west coord.

You are now at the Final which is the location of the Heron School or Grant Township, District #4 which was opened for students in 1883 under the teachings of Mary Crawford.  They averaged 140 days in school year with an average daily attendance of 26 students.  Their school year was Sept through February with spring term to follow although March and April were sometimes omitted because of the muddy roads.
