Geocache Description:

North Bay's Champlain Park, at the mouth of the LaVase River on beautiful Lake Nipissing, is not just another pretty face in Northern Ontario--it's a plot of land that holds many key pieces to the understanding of our past. http://discoveryroutes.ca/north-bay/lavase/ http://www.lavaseportages.com/route-maps.html

The La Vase Portages is a 14 km section of the historic Voyageur canoe route, which connects Trout Lake and Lake Nipissing. The Route was used thousands of years ago by First Nations in Ontario at the time of European contact. Europeans, including Etienne Brule and Samuel de Champlain learned of the route from First Nations guides and it was soon established as a major artery into the interior of North America. Lock and lock painted in camo.
