Geocache Description:

Oaklings

Oak trees are an important part of the Bucklebury landscape. From the majestic avenue of oaks at the Chapel Row end of the Common which were planted in honour of Queen Elizabeth I, to the tiny acorns on the brand new crest granted to the local Middleton family on the marriage of their daughter Katherine to Prince William, they are everywhere. Even the village school has oak leaves as its emblem.

Across Bucklebury Common there are many oaks, some of them young, some of them very old indeed.

Take a little walk around the central part of the Lower Common and see how many you can see. Some stand alone, some in little groups, others are hard to see, surrounded as they are by thickets of silver birch and some very dense holly.

At 2 of the caches you will find a clue that will lead you to the final bonus cache, with a little local history lesson. Hopefully you will have some fun along the way - some of the cache locations lend themselves to very childish delights! Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife, the woods round here are filled with creatures large and small.

The circular walk is about 1 and a half miles long, over some steepish terrain with some stiles. Our own little Hobbits have been able to do the walk since they were 2 years old, but it is not suitable for a pram. Sometimes there are cows in one of the fields, although it is a public footpath - please use common sense if the cows look a bit lairy if you have children with you! There is parking at Angel's Corner. Once you have located the bonus cache it is a short way back to where you parked, and you could pick up the Cunning Cachers 2nd Anniversary Cache and The Teddies on Bucklebury Common on your way.

We hope you enjoy the Bucklebury Hobbits' first series of caches.
