This cache is located in Chesney Conservation Area. This land was once owned by the Church Hotel. The Chesney family bought it to farm about 1930 and had it until 1972 when the property became a conservation area with the various wildlife and vegetation.
The original floor from the hotel had been moved to the Blue Moon Hotel in St. Petersburg. Don’t know if it is still in use there or not.
The family farm did have a dance hall that was built approximately 1940. This provided a location for dances as well as other social events like wedding showers , buck and doe parties.
We thought this cache name was appropriate as this was a social location where there was probably some courting going on.
The Froggy Comes A’Courtin is an actual old English folk song that dates back to 1548. This song has been sung by such people as Beryl Ives and Tex Ritter and can be seen on YouTube if interested.
There are 2 parking areas for the trail. One is at the entrance gate by the road and you can park here all year long. The other is past the gate and up the lane to where the old dance hall and farm buildings used to be. This is open during daylight hours and when there is no snow blocking the lane. Update 2020 09 25: Froggy has disappeared, someone suspects he jumped away, so he has been replaced by Allie Gate-Tor. Please make sure Allie Gate-Tor is fully covered to avoid being found by muggles>.
