THIS CACHE IS BEING PUBLISHED POSTHUMOUSLY AS DOZER TRAGICALLY PASSED AWAY IN JUNE OF 2013. R.I.P. LITTLE BUDDY.

BULLDOG-POWER’S DESCRIPTION OF DOZER

“A face only a mother could love” is a pure understatement! It does not matter if you see an English Bulldog puppy or a full-grown adult; this breed is more than a dog.

Dozer is just a puppy (9 months) he will do whatever it takes to make me laugh and to get every ounce of affection he can get out of me. He actually acts like a cat sometimes. Jumping in the air to catch a fly, trying to grab a light or shadow on the wall with his huge paws or just rolling on his back and being silly. Dozer loves to sleep, relax and snore. Saying that he is lazy may be a little bit of an overstatement. Lazy is what we humans can call it but to Dozer it is simply a decision to not do what I was asking of him. He notices every single thing I am doing and he’s quick to move when he feel the need.

When I ask pretty much anything of him that doesn’t involve food Dozer looks at me like I am crazy! The best is when I call him in from outside and he makes his way to the patio door and just when I try to reach out to pet him or bring him in he runs the other way. I then call him again, he stops, looks at me and just keeps on doing what he is doing!

Besides these little set-backs, his temperament is easy, laid-back and downright loving. There is not a second that goes by that I do not feel the unconditional love.

APPEARANCE

The Bulldog is a breed with characteristically wide head and shoulders along with a pronounced mandibular prognathism. There are generally thick folds of skin on a Bulldog’s brow; round, black, wide-set eyes; a short muzzle with characteristic folds called rope above the nose; hanging skin under the neck; drooping lips and pointed teeth, and occasionally an underbite. The coat is short, flat, and sleek.

In the UK, the breed standards are 50 pounds for a male and 40 pounds for a female. In the United States, a typical mature male weighs 45 to 55 pounds. Mature females weigh in at about 45 pounds.

Bulldogs are one of the few breeds whose tail is naturally short and either straight or screwed and thus is not cut or docked as with some other breeds.

TEMPERAMENT

According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), a Bulldog’s disposition should be “equable and kind, resolute, and courageous (not vicious or aggressive), and demeanor should be pacific and dignified. These attributes should be countenanced by the expression and behavior.”

Breeders have worked to reduce/remove aggression from these dogs. Because of this, the Bulldog is known to be of good temperament. Most have a friendly, patient nature. Generally, Bulldogs are known for getting along well with children, other dogs, and pets. They can be so attached to home and family that they will not venture out of the yard without a human companion and are more likely to sleep on someone's lap than chase a ball around the yard.
