Geocache Description:

This is neat old building in Steinhart Park, this is a small cache with a little room for coins or small swag. BYOP

The Old Stone Cabin was originally constructed in the 1930's. It is believed to be a WPA protect and was built about the same time as Steinhart lodge and the terraces. The Girl Scouts remember rolling up in their sleeping bags to spend the night down by the fire pit that still exists today listening to the night sounds of the running water and unknown animals.

It was next used or know as the "Golf Shack." Wildwood Golf Course used to tee off in this area one used to have to hit over the creek just down the hill.

Since the golf course moved to its current location the Old Stone Cabin has been used for a variety of functions from craft making to quilt making to just plain hanging out.

It is owned by the city of Nebraska City and for many years used as storage. It was at this point that it fell into disrepair. Jim D. Kuhn then went to the city and offered to provide the labor and materials to get the cabin back into a useful state..

Many volunteer hours were spent fixing up the cabin, and there will be many more used to continue fixing up this historic place in Nebraska City's past. In 2012 Leadership Nebraska City raised all the funds and provided their labor to install an new wood shake roof.

No tax dollars were used to fix up this piece of our history and for that we are very proud.

Many memories were made here an hopefully many more will be created.
