For me, this is a very special cache for several reasons. It represents the first cache I've ever placed, and I got to place it in this fabulous, wilderness setting, in that this area was where all my best childhood memories were created. Also, I got to place it here while vacationing with my best friend/husband, Webscouter. Lastly, I know that those who find this cache, will enjoy the beauty and wonder of these wonderful northwoods and Boundary Waters area as well.
My Grandfather was one of the first to build a private home back in 1952 on the Minnesota side... of what's now known as "Mile-O-Pine" road. My summers meant leaving Missouri and having the Superior National Forest as my summer playground year after year. With no TV, Internet, or a nearby town...this was a place where fun was created by just being on Gunflint Lake and all it had to offer...the stars here shined brighter, the water pure and clear, total stillness while sitting on the dock to watch a breathtaking sunset, picking a bucket full of wild blueberries, hiking up to Bridal Falls...all added up to a deep love and appreciation of this "perfect" and peaceful setting that I'll always cherish.
Here at the Lodge, built in 1942, also holds so many fun memories, as it was here where we would hang out, buy a candy bar or soda pop, and sit around and share stories with wonderful friends. You're looking for a medium-sized container that blends well into these surroundings.
