You never know what dangers you'll encounter while Geocaching. The danger here is the rickety bridge. For safety reasons, please do not walk on the bridge!
You are searching for a bison tube with room for a log only. Once you spot the cache, please be delicate retrieving it. There are concrete benches and a memorial nearby. If you do not want to park at the Sam Moss Service Center, you can park across the street at the Elks Lodge. Watch your step and enjoy the hunt.
You are standing near Burnt Fork Creek, which follows a CSX rail corridor for six miles from Tucker to Mason Mill Park, where it enters South Peachtree Creek. Burnt Fork Creek once supplied water to the city of Decatur through a dam that formed a reservoir. The Old Decatur Water Works, built in 1906 in the area currently known as Mason Mill Park, treated and pumped the water. However, by the 1940s the waterworks could not keep up with growing demand. The dam was destroyed and the reservoir drained in the 1960s.
The path of the proposed commuter rail "Brain Train" from Atlanta to Athens would run along the CSX line you see nearby. Two additional tracks would need to be built along this existing line to accommodate the Brain Train. Advocates for the Burnt Fork Creek Watershed worry about the potential impact that commuter rail will have on this urban waterway.
