THIS CACHE IS BEING PUBLISHED POSTHUMOUSLY AS SPIRIT LEFT US ON JUNE 6, 2013 AFTER A LONG AND HAPPY LIFE. R.I.P. MY SWEETHEART. YOU'LL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

BLACKSPIRIT’S DESCRIPTION OF SPIRIT

Obviously, I borrowed Spirit’s name for my own geocaching handle – and his beautiful face as my avatar. Even though he’s no longer with me in body he’s always there when I sign a log.

Spirit was a 120 lb black King Shepherd who lived to play. He was happiest when he had a ball or a stuffed toy to keep him busy. Of course, he always thought that the only thing I needed to be doing at any point in time was play with him. His favourite game was to place the ball at his feet and dare me to try and grab it before he did. Needless to say I seldom won that game.

He loved to come and cache with Chickymunkey and I although for him it was just a walk in a new trail with new smells.

I miss him immensely but I’m extremely happy that he was part of my life for close to 11 years.

APPEARANCE

The build of the King Shepherd is slightly muscular, long, and robust; the structure is solid. The head is in good proportion with the body and moderately wide between the eyes. The forehead is slightly rounded. The cheeks are not too full and moderately curved when viewed from the top. The thick, firm ears are medium sized and moderately wide at base. The eyes are medium sized and almond shaped. The shades of the eyes can be varying shades of brown ranging from golden brown to almost black. The chest is broad and deep. Thickly feathered, the tail reaches at least to the hocks and is slightly curved.

King Shepherds are much larger than German Shepherds. Males stand at 29-32 inches tall and 100-150 pounds while females are 25-29 inches tall and 75 to 110 pounds.

TEMPERAMENT

The King Shepherd is self-confident with a well-balanced personality and healthy nervous system. They should not exhibit any shyness or nervousness. They are extremely intelligent, easy to train and eager and faithful to please their owners. This breed makes a fine sheepherder and working dog. They are also a naturally courageous guard and watchdog, showing courage, strength, and hardiness in their role of protector. They make very nice companions and are friendly to other animals and children. They are a docile obedient breed with an easy gait and plenty of stamina.
