This is a letterbox hybrid cache. It is based on an older form of scavenger hunting, called letterboxing. In addition to the usual cache contents, this one contains a stamp and inkpad. If you have your own personal stamp and stamp book, please stamp it in this cache’s logbook alongside your signature, and stamp your own book with the stamp(s) included in this cache. If not, sign the log as you would any regular cache and log it as found online.
This cache is placed near the junction of Provincial Trunk Highways 60 and 10. The two are key roadways connecting northern Manitoba with the more populated south. Motorists travelling from Winnipeg to The Pas or Flin Flon will usually use both highways to get from A to B as quickly as possible. There is a small crescent along PTH 60 where you can pull your car over before reaching PTH 10. Use this spot to park your vehicle and walk.
From this location, northbound PTH 10 climbs and redirects westward. It is following the course of the Pas Moraine, a high ridge stretching from Clearwater Lake south to here, and east to Long Point, on Lake Winnipeg. The moraine is a huge pile of glacial debris that formed over the course of thousands of years. PTH 60 is built on top of this moraine, as is PTH 10 between here and Clearwater Lake. For more information about how this ridge formed, see/complete my earthcache 70 km east of here, GC4NT6D.
This is Manitoba’s first (active) letterbox hybrid cache north of the 51st parallel. There is an FTF certificate for the first finder.
