Aylestone Hill, Hereford
Grid Reference: SO521413
This new addition to the parks and open spaces in Hereford City is situated just south of the A4103 Roman Road and is accessed from car parks off the A465 Aylestone Hill road.
This site is owned by Herefordshire Council and managed by Amey Herefordshire in partnership with local residents (Aylestone Hill Park Association) and the Hereford & Gloucester Canal Trust. Recent works have included shrub planting and the development off a slipway on to the canal to improve access for future canal restoration projects. A full management plan for the site will be drawn up over the coming months.
The site is 'divided' into three main sections:
- The lower flat area will be developed in to sports facilities with an adjacent children's play area as funding becomes available.
- The sloped area will be managed as mixed wildflower meadow with informal recreation and a local variety orchard which will shortly be being planted as part of the developments around the blind college.
- The upper eastern area is going to be kept as the wildlife area for the park with appropriate management of trees and minimal grass cutting to encourage wildflowers and associated invertebrates, small mammals etc.
Please keep dogs under close control and use the dog waste and litter bins provided.

Trust volunteers continued to support the other community groups during 2005, with more fencing, path laying, vegetation clearance, and construction of a secure works compound on the site, and the WRG returned again in July 2005 to provide essential training on the use of mechanical plant planned to be used later in the project.
