Geocache Description:

WW2 relics on Bora Bora.

English:

Bora Bora is known for its splendid like-paradise-on-earth-beauty and a dreamlike South Sea feeling. There is, however, a less commonly known chapter in Bora Bora's history: during World War II it was chosen by the US as a South pacific supply base and an oil depot, airstrip, seaplane base, and defensive fortifications were constructed. The supply force consisted of nearly 7000 men and 20000 tons of equipment. However, the island never saw war as the American presence on Bora Bora went uncontested over the course of the war. Today you can still find and visit some of the relics the GIs left behind.

To get the final coordinates for the geocache, you have to answer the following questions.

1. What was the name of the military supply base on Bora Bora? Operation ...? The number of letters this name consists of is N.
2. How many coastal guns were installed on Bora Bora? The answer is G.
3. On which date was the base officially closed? The day gives you D and the month gives you M.
4. Until which year served the Bora Bora airstrip as French Polynesias only international airport? The sum of these four digits is Y.

The geocache is hidden at
S16 28.(M-D)(G-M)(N+D) W151 45.(Y-G-D)(D)(G-D).
Note that you will need some kind of tool to retrieve the stash: a stick with a hook or some magnet attached should work.

Finally: thanks to our local friend Azdine, who agreed to take care of this geocache hide.

Francais: à suivre.
