George Street, once the Main Street in the gold rush days, many of the buildings have gone. There are still a few along the 800 meters which make up George St. The street at one stage had 120 shops along its length which included lolly shops, general merchants and at one stage, up to12 pubs for the pleasure of the 15,000 residents. This building was once a lolly factory in the 1890's but unfortunately time has got the better of it.
