La chiesa della Natività
La chiesa della Natività, più nota ai brighesi come chiesa della “Madonna” sorge a sud dell’antico abitato di Briga e quindi a pochi passi dalla chiesa parrocchiale dedicata a San Giovanni Battista.
In realtà sin dal ‘600 esistevano in quella zona due piccole chiese dette di San Rocco e di San Rocchino. San Rocco conservò nel tempo l’originaria intitolazione, mentre San Rocchino divenne nel Settecento la chiesa della Natività. Attorno al 1733-1734 la piccola cappella subì un ampliamento che incorporò parte dell’antico edificio, conservando in questo modo un pregevole dipinto del XVI o addirittura del XV secolo raffigurante la Madonna in trono con Bambino. Con il dipinto ci è pervenuta anche la bella cornice dorata eseguita nel 1683 da Giorgio Zanolio, intagliatore borgomanerese. The Church of the Nativity
The Church of the Nativity, better known to residents, as the Church of "Madonna" is located to the South of the old town of Brig and then within walking distance from the parish church dedicated to St. John the Baptist.
Actually since ' 600 existed in that area said two small churches of San Rocco and San Rocchino. San Rocco retained the original title, while San Rocchino became during the 18th century the Church of the Nativity.
1733-1734 around the small chapel underwent an expansion that incorporated part of the ancient building, preserving a valuable painting from the 16th or even 15th century depicting the Madonna enthroned with the child. With the painting has survived even the beautiful golden frame made in 1683 by Giorgio Zanolio, Carver. The name "the Nativity" apparently derives from the fact that since 1714, the processions were held on the day of the Nativity (8 September).
