Geocache Description:

This cache could be found as one of a short walk around the local area. The walk uses footpaths, the coastal path, and quiet local roads to make a circular walk from Westward Ho! returning here after about 3.5 miles. Walking the route and putting the caches in place took us about 2 hours. We also walk on and then later again meet the route of the Bideford, Westward Ho! and Appledore railway

The cache is a camouflaged micro. The place where it is set is where the now disused railway once crossed the road. The railway is marked on ordnance survey maps and can be seen as a wide path of trees between the fields. The route of the railway can still be traced on maps.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bideford,_Westward_Ho!_and_Appledore_Railway   The railway only ran for a few years but can be seen on the map and in your surroundings.

Later, in this area, there was a racetrack. I have seen in a local history book a photograph of the nearby gates, stating that these were gates to the race track. http://www.westwardhohistory.co.uk/the-racecourse.php
