Geocache Description:

This cache celebrates Osage Orange - native to the Red River Valley. Osage Orange spread across the US before the invention of barbed wire. Thousands of miles of hedge were constructed by planting these trees close together. "Horse high, bull strong and hog tight" - the criteria for a hedge of Osage Orange. Tall enough that a horse wouldn't jump it, stout enough that a bull wouldn't push through it and woven so tight that a hog couldn't find its way through!

Welcome to Benjamin Banneker Historical Park and Museum!
We invite you to come explore the park and all it has to offer.
We have several Osage Orange Trees on the property. The two easiest to find are...
• On the parking lot loop near the flags... go to the area of the circle nearest Oella Avenue.
• Directly behind the cabin to the left of the trail as you start to enter the woods.
These are female, fruit bearing trees. The fruit ripens and starts to drop in the fall.

The cache contains an educational insert about Osage Orange... stop, read and learn more about this interesting tree.

The park (142 acres and 6 miles of trails) is open sunrise to sunset... the museum is open Tuesday thru Saturday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
We are Geocaching friendly with lots of parking and clean restrooms.
