The Scream Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

rlobecker: I've decided to archive this cache. It recently enjoyed its 12th birthday. I adopted the cache about 8 years ago. The number of finds in the last few years has ranged from 2 to 5. There have been 0 finds in 2025. I take that as a sign that it is time for something new here. I might have kept this one active if the host tree still resembled The Scream, but unfortunately, it was made a nondescript stump about 4 years ago. Thank you to racsanone for letting me adopt this cache, and thank you to all those who visited.

Geocache Description:

This cache is along a picturesque stretch of the Cross County Trail, along Pohick Creek, near its confluence with Middle Run. The path at the cache is well-maintained but unpaved. The cache can be reached in about six minutes from the trailhead at Richfield Road. All approaches will have some hilly terrain.

This cache was placed by racsanone in October 2013 and adopted by rlobecker in September 2017. For the first 8+ years of its existence, this cache was hidden within the oral cavity of a tree that bore a resemblance to the figure in Edvard Munch's The Scream.

The tree has been cut down, presumably by the park authority. I decided to keep this cache active, in the same spot, even though the cache title isn't really applicable anymore.

Bring your own pen(cil).

Geocachers must abide by all Fairfax County Park Authority rules and regulations. Park hours are from dawn to dusk. Night caching is prohibited.
