Enjoy the historical significance of the site. From this location, you can see the original site of the Flint River Ferry which linked state Routes 49 and 128 near Marshallville, GA. Described as a "nice, big, flat, steel boat" by the last boatman, the 55 foot long ferry was powered by an old six-cylinder Chevrolet engine. A couple was once married on the ferry and the ashes of a Macon County man were scattered in the river during one of its crossings. The bridges which now span the river replaced the ferry in 1988 and the last of Georgia's manned ferries was lost forever.
