A Geocaching Travel Bug® is hitching a ride with astronaut Rick Mastracchio straight to the International Space Station. The mission is currently scheduled to launch from Kazakhstan at 4:08 GMT on November 7, which is 5:08 a.m. in Berlin and November 6 at 8:08 p.m. in Los Angeles. (Convert to your time here.)
Rick will live aboard the ISS for 6 months. He plans to use the Travel Bug as a tool to teach students on Earth, in his home state of Connecticut, about geography and science.
We will be meeting at Hardees in Barboursville from 5pm to 6pm to celebrate the event. This is a Travel bug space launch event so what better way to celebrate it by launching your own space themed travel bugs. You do not have to bring a space themed travel bug to launch at the event to attend but it is encouraged. Who knows, maybe one of ours wil make it to space one day. Everyone who attends an event on November 6th or November 7th will also receive a souviner added to their geocaching profile as well.
