Geocache Description:

Unforeseen circumstances beyond my control have necessitated a CHANGE TO THE LOCATION of the 2013 – A Travel Bug Space Odyssey event. Don’t worry – it’s only a couple of miles away at a different school property.

NEW LOCATION: 801 S. Seventh Avenue
Libertyville, IL 60048

The new coordinates posted by Ed Rooney are for the parking lot at the north end of the school and it has lots of parking spaces.

N42 16.411 W087 56.624 are the Closest Parking Coordinates (in the bus circle and yes, you may park along the curb in the circle – just don’t block anyone in one of the parking spots.) These are close to the door we will enter if meeting inside. Street parking is allowed as well.

OUTSIDE coordinates: N42 16.411 W087 56.686 is approximate location where we will meet up if the event is outside.

A space themed evening of fun awaits you. Sky Gazing - Games - Prizes - Music - Treats!!! The event will start at 18:30 hours (6:30 pm) and last exactly 92.92 minutes!! That's the time it takes the International Space Station (ISS) to complete one orbit around Earth! Come join the fun!!

PLEASE LOG A "WILL ATTEND" if you're coming. We will have a limited supply of space-themed party favors but will hand them out based on the will attend logs - those who log a "Will Attend" will get theirs first while supplies last!!

NOTE: We plan to conduct the event on the field next to the school building so we can do some "star gazing" if the weather permits but if it is too cold or if it is cloudy or rainy or *gasp* snowy, we will hold the event in the building instead. Dress warmly - bring lawn chairs and binoculars and a sense of adventure!!!"

Now... what's all the space fuss about?
On or about November 6 or 7, 2013 Geocaching is rocketing into space once again. Astronaut Rick Mastracchio will deliver a Travel Bug® to the International Space Station. Mastracchio will be using the Travel Bug as an educational tool to help teach students around the world about geography and provide other educational lessons. The mission is currently scheduled to launch from Kazakhstan at 4:08 GMT on November 7  and we want you all to be there (at least in spirit). That means the launch is planned to liftoff at 5:08 a.m. in Berlin and November 6 at 8:08 p.m. in Los Angeles.  That converts to a launch time for Chicago, Illinois at 10:08 p.m on November 6. We will not be attempting to watch the launch live due to the uncertainty of the time.

Groundspeak is offering a highly sought after souvenir for those who attend a Geocaching in Space event on either November 6 or November 7.

*Note: Since this is a real-deal rocket launch, it could be delayed. In this case we’ll issue the souvenir for attending an event on November 6 or 7, and for attending an event on the the actual launch date.
