Deer–vehicle collisions have occurred ever since roadways have been built in proximity to habitat. White Tail Deer, the most common deer in this area, have steadily increased in numbers since the turn of the 20th century. Currently, it is estimated that 20 to 30 million deer populate North America. The increased amount of habitat fragmenation, due to the expansion of paved roadways and rural residences , has increased the likelihood of a deer-vehicle collisions.The actual number of animals killed in deer-vehicle collisions is not known because no exact statistics are kept, however in Ontario for 2008, Lanark county ranked 4th with 481 collisions with wildlife, most of which were White Tail Deer.
This cache is adjacent to a heavily traveled game trail. Deer are the most common animals to cross at this point but coyote, fox, skunks, porcupine and even black bear have been seen sauntering across the road.
The container is a re-purposed mayonnaise jar that has been camo-ed. The cache contains the usual stuff.
