Geocache Description:

On the 10th of January 2004 on a headland 3 hrs south of Sydney, Australia the very first EarthCache was 'placed' by Geoaware and his two daughters. EarthCache I - a simple geology tour of Wasp Head sat for two weeks before it was found by Tankengine.  The first log reads:

Chooo ooo *FTF* The family wanted to go to the beach today, and I thought that was a great idea! They had fun in the sand, and I went off to do the cache. It was great! Just a like exploring around the rock pools, but with a geology lesson thrown in! I’ve seen similar formations in the past, and often wondered how the heck they got to be like that, but here all was explained! Fantastic! The only minor difficulty was the initial access from the beach to the rocks, but after that it was easy going. (I think it was high tide).

Excellent cache thanks geoaware – now I’m looking forward to more…

This is a pub event:

Date: 10 January 2014

Time: 7:00pm

Location: Sgt. Peppers Pub and Grill,  235 Salem Rd S, Ajax

Seating is limited to 60 people so sign up early.

This event is scheduled to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of EarthCache1- a simple geology tour of Wasp Head, in Australia.  There are currently over 16,000 earthcaches located around the globe with many interesting sites located in Ontario and even some in Durham Region.  While knowledge of earthcaches is not required to attend this event, some knowledge may be helpful as there will be a quiz and games to test your knowledge.  Prizes will also be given out so you might want to brush up on your general knowledge or team up with someone  who has.

Favorite earthcaches around the globe will be highlighted and I am asking attendee's to send me a few photo's of your favorite earthcache locations.  Please include the GC code, name and location of this earthcache by either adding it to the photo or including it in the email.  All photo's can be sent to me at skyecat@me.com

A fact sheet about earthcaches will be available and possibly a Q & A for people interested in setting up their own earthcache site.

Come and join the earthcache wave
