Geocache Description:

Commemorating the old train line that used to connect the bush timber and charcoal industry to the 'big-smoke' this old steam train now serves as a rest stop.

Pit stop on the way to Mt Baw Baw or the local Trout farm

This currently marks one end of the Noojee Commemorative Rail trail that plans to extend much further as funds and path laying permits.

This trail is part of what was the branch line from Warragul that opened in 1919 and slowly closed in sections between 1954 and 1958.

The Noojee Trestle is an impressive structure only 2.5km away along a very pleasant flat gradient bike track to the west.

The unveiling of the Society’s five-stage plan to reconstruct the site occured in 2011, In April 2012, the Noojee and District Historical Society were successful in a bid to relocate J class steam locomotive J550 from Warragul to Noojee for eventual restoration.

On the 24th of March 2013, J550 was moved by road to Noojee and placed on a section of track at the site of the former railway station.

And finally, restoration of the original railway station site in Noojee will officially open on 22nd March 2014.

Further south towards Warragul, approximately 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) of the formation has been converted into the Rokeby to Crossover Rail Trail With such a big steel structure attracting everyones attention, its no surprise to hear that the cache will be magnetic, but not on the train. With so many places to chose from, the clue will be handy only if you cant get a good GPS fix.
