Eine einzelsträngige Nukleotidsequenz wird als palindrom bezeichnet wenn sie mit ihrem reversen Komplement identisch ist.
Die Sequenz GCGATCGC wird als Palindrom bezeichnet, weil das reverse complement identisch ist (daher auch „inverted repeat palindrome“).
