Geocache Description:

Jao Tsung-I Academy (饒宗頤文化館), located at the former Lai Chi Kok Hospital, is a historic compound selected as one of the projects under the “Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme” of the Development Bureau of the HKSAR Government. With the support of the government and community partners, the compound is now revitalised as a cultural hub that promotes Chinese culture, facilitates cultural exchanges, and contributes to the society at large.

Prof. Jao Tsung-I (饒宗頤) is a Chinese scholar, poet, calligrapher and painter. In the world of academics, Jao Tsung-I has been a pioneer in seeking new grounds and is passionate in his exploration. His motto is to “seek the truth, seek the standard and seek the justness” (求真, 求是, 求正). He sparked off research on Dunhuang Manuscripts, now known as “Dunhuangology”, and Chaozhou studies. Undertaking a diverse but converging path in his scholarly pursuits, his contributions cover thirteen genres ranging across the whole field of sinology, including ancient history, oracle bone inscriptions, silk scripts, paleography, ancient musicology, religion, Chuchi, etc. Being a prolific writer, he is the author of over seventy books and over nine hundred scholarly articles, many of which have opened up new vistas of research possibilities.
