Geocache Description:

Welcome to San Tan Mountain Regional Park. With over 10,000 acres, the southeast Valley park is a fine example of the lower Sonoran Desert. The park ranges in elevation from about 1,400ft to over 2,500ft. Goldmine Mountain is located in the northern area, with a spectacular San Tan Mountain escarpment in the southern portion of the park. The vegetation changes from creosote flats to dense saguaro forest. Various types of wildlife may be observed.

Trails: Moonlight, Stargazer and San Tan (2.2 miles Easy) Recommended Use: Hiking, Mountain Biking and Equestrian Summary: A park favorite, this loop guides you from the beautiful lower Sonoran Desert scene slowly up the side of a mountain to some spectacular viewing areas of San tan Valley (roughly 150 ft of elevation gain over 1 mile). This loop has a few small hills and narrow areas. The Stargazer loop is quite spectacular on a full moon or during wildflower season (mid-February to April). There is a $6 per vehicle park entry fee to access the trails.
