FCO opened in January 1961. It was named after da Vinci because he specifically envisioned and designed machines that could fly, such as a helicopter and a flying machine with wings. He is definitely the pride of Italy and worthy of having an airport named in his honor!
The airport lies 19 miles southwest of Rome in the village of Fiumicino and in 2012 served 37.5 million passengers. There are 4 terminals (1, 2, 3, & 5) which house almost 60 gates.
On the four runways, 107 airlines fly their planes in and out of FCO. Domestically, 850,000 passengers flew to Sicily and internationally 1.2 million passengers flew to Charles de Gaulle in 2012, making these two destinations the most flown to.
FlyingPig85 wishes she was there right now, sipping a glass of vino (she is old enough to do this). When FlyingPig85 first visited, the legal age to drink was 16. Now it is 18. Roma was the first place she over imbibed on cheap, white wine. Ah, the memories!
You will need to bring a pen, as the cache is small and does not have one.
This can be a very high muggle area at times, so be aware!
