Geocache Description:

The first place I heard about geocaching and one of the most beautiful and romantic viewpoints over Jerusalem. In the wake of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, Mount Scopus (826 mr. above sea level) became a UN protected Israeli exclave within Jordanian-administered territory until the Six-Day War in 1967. Today, Mount Scopus lies within the municipal boundaries of the city of Jerusalem.

Important landmarks in Mount Scopus and the nearby area: (1) The Hadassah Hospital, (2) The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Mainly the Faculties of Humanities, Social Sciences, Education and Law. Other faculties - mainly the Exact Sciences are in Givat Ram, the medicine faculty also in Ein Kerem), (3) The Betzalel Academy of Art and Design, (4) the National Botanic Garden (At the Hebrew University) (5) Hecht Synagogue (at the Hebrew University) (6) The British War Cemetery (for fallen servicemen of the British Commonwealth in the First World War in Israel) (7) Cave of Nicanor (an ancient burial cave located in the Botanic gardens. Excavations in the cave discovered an ossuary referring to "Nicanor the door maker." Nicanor belonged to a wealthy Alexandrian Jewish family. He is mentioned in the works of the Roman Jewish historian Josephus and the Talmud as the donor of the bronze doors of the Court of the Women in the Second Temple in Jerusalem. This fact is also inscribed in Greek on his ossuary: ‘Bones of the family of Nicanor the Alexandrian who made the gates), (7) Augusta Victoria Hospital (a church-hospital complex built in 1907 as a center for the German Protestant community in Ottoman Palestine. During World War II, it was converted into a hospital by the British), (8) Brigham Young University (A Mormon University, built after the Mormons pledged not to proselytize in Israel. Commands a panoramic view of Jerusalem and has won awards for its stunning architecture)
