The city of ArAr is the capital of the Northern Border Province of Saudi Arabia and was founded in 1951 (1375 AH), after the construction of the Aramco oil pipeline (Tapline) was completed. It was initially an oil pumping station with a health center and worker housing.
ArAr got its name from the original oil field that existed before the town, "Field RR", one of many in the country, where it was known by the locals as "R.R." which later became ArAr.
You can choose between a long tour with seven stages or a short one with only one stage, depending on the time you can spent in ArAr.
TOUR-1 (7 stages + final):
This geocaching tour consists of seven travelpoints. On each one you have to answer one or more questions to be able to create the final coordinates. The tour last at least two hours (~5,5km), but on the way you find enough shops and restaurants to refresh yourself.
It is also possible to follow the route by car with stops at the travelpoints.
Experienced geocacher without enough time for the long tour might be able to find the final without some travelpoints using the hints and internet.
Please take paper and pen with you to write down the answers.
1st Travelpoint (Q1): Look to Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Bin Musaed Mosque and count a) minarets (=M), b) small towers (=H1), c) small cupolas (= F), d) count big cupolas (=G).
2nd Travelpoint (Q2): Follow promenade with lamp posts and a) count lamp posts on the left walkway (=A). At the end of the promenade you find some fitness stations: b) count different fitness stations, not possibilities (=H2).
3rd Travelpoint (Q3): Look to the picture of the ruling Saudi King in 2013 (King Abdullah ibn Abd al-Aziz) a) count flowers on picture (=B1), b) count towers of picture frame (=B2). In case the picture has changed or is gone, count the streets leading to the roundabout of this travelpoint and “cut” the number in two equal numbers. Write the numbers next to each other and you get a new number B4 which is equal (B1+B2).
4th Travelpoint (Q4)s: Look in direction of the mosque and count the different kind of "towers" nearby (=D).
5th Travelpoint (Q5): Walk upstairs and cross the pedestrian bridge. Count the stairs to reach the top (=B3).
6th Travelpoint (Q6): Walk the promenade uphill to the top (middle of park) and a) count all lamp posts on this promenade (=E), b) count lamps of the 4th lamp post (=C). From here you can walk through the middle of the park in direction of the last waypoint (first on grass, after 50m on a footpath).
7th Travelpoint (Q7): a) count the ways leading from the road to the Sculpture/Plastic Art/Bronze (=L1), b) count the stairs to the Sculpture/Plastic Art/Bronze (=K), c) count the swords on both sides of the Sculpture/Plastic Art/Bronze (=I), d) count the palm trees on one side of the Sculpture/Plastic Art/Bronze (=L2).
Now calculate the coordinates of the Final:
North A° (B1+B2+B3)' C,D(2xE)" East FG° (H1-H2)' IK,(L1+L2)M"
TOUR-2 (1 stage + final):
This geocaching tour consists of only one travelpoint where you can also park your car. You have to answer one or more questions to be able to create the final coordinates. The tour last about 30 minutes only (<1km).
Go to 1st Travelpoint (Q1): Look to Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Bin Musaed Mosque and count a) minarets (=M), b) small towers (=H1), c) small cupolas (= F), d) count big cupolas (=G).
Now calculate the coordinates of the Final:
North (M+G)(H1-F-M)° (F+G)(H1+G).(M+H1+G)FG' East FG° (H1-F-M)(F-M-M).(M+H1+G)(MH1+F-G)(H1+G)'
