All'inizio era cappella filiale della Pieve di Susegana, divenne in seguito Curazia e fu eretta in Parrocchia, secondo alcuni storici, nel 1642, secondo altri alla metà del sec. XVI. Il suo territorio una volta faceva parte del feudo di S. Salvatore dei conti Collalto. Più anticamente apparteneva alla famiglia che dal sito ebbe il nome di conti di Colfosco.
Questi sul colle della "Tombola" avevano un castello, ora scomparso, presso il quale era eretta l'antica chiesa parrocchiale di S. Daniele di "Colle Fusco", ridotta in seguito ad oratorio pubblico dal titolo di S. Maria della Guardia - esiste ancora e una volta aveva anche il suo cimitero. Nel secolo scorso si pensò di costruire, in luogo più centrale e più comodo per la popolazione, una nuova chiesa che fu iniziata nel 1846, terminata nel 1856 e consacrata il 6 settembre 1874 dal Vescovo Corradino M. Cavriani.
