Geocache Description:

Priest Croft Lane
This cache is part of a series to celebrate some
of the nice walks that can be found round Darfield

This walk starts from Saltersbrook Road and eventually ends up at Edderthorpe.
At Edderthorpe there is a further footpath that forms part of the Dearne way where
you can get back to Darfield at the Bridge over the river Dearne
The Dearne Way is a series of footpaths that follow the River Dearne from its source
near Birdsedge,Denby Dale to its meeting with the River Don at Mexborough
This walk was published by Barnsley MBC (Country Side Unit) and I believe
copies are available from The Council office at The Civic Hall, Eldon Street, Barnsley, S70 2JL

At the point where the Cache is there are views of Tyers Hall and
Tyers Hill to the West.
The buildings date back to the 17th and 18th centuries.
There is a long history of farming on that site
there is even evidence that Romans occupied the site 2000 years ago.

The site of Houghton Main Colliery can be seen to the East now occupied
by a large warehouse housing a European Online Fashion company.
There is also a path (part of The Dearne Way)that goes up to the Hall
where one can then walk North on to Storrs Mill Wood
or South back to the A645 Doncaster Road.

Note :- Although this bridleway is normally a pleasant walk
there are times when it can get muddy so good walking shoes are a must.

This a small cache, your own pencil will be required.
Please replace back carefully where found.

please report any maintenance required.
Thank you enjoy
