QB - Murray Canal -South side Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

mcbali: Went to check on this one to see how stuck the quarter was. It wasn't frozen, just really stuck! Thankfully that is the first quarter I have come across in any of my micros. (Please don't put swag in micros....) Decided to archive this one.

~*~*Beware of poison ivy!!*~*~

Long before the Murray Canal was constructed, this narrow neck of land linking Lake Ontario and the Bay of Quinte, was a “carrying place” or portage. The canal was constructed between 1882 and 1889. Cutting straight through the narrow strip of land connecting Prince Edward County with the north shore of Lake Ontario, the Murray Canal is an 8 km canal linking Lake Ontario with the Bay of Quinte. It was built as an alternative shipping route to the treacherous waters surrounding Prince Edward County. Now, thousands of boaters each year use this shortcut which is operated by the Trent-Severn Waterway.
