The point of the WC Barn Tour series is to teach cachers a little bit about the history of Wallowa County by taking them to some outstanding barns. Be sure to take lots of pictures!
This cache is found just off of Tucker Down Road. It provides a view of the Octogon Barn nearby. This Octogon Barn was possibly built for sheepfarmer Napoleon "Poly" Beaudoin. It had a large "fork house" where hay was hoisted by fork into a loft by a horse team. It was built in 1906, nearly 100 years ago!
Napoleon Beaudoin was the son of Pete Beaudoin. Pete too was a sheep farmer. He raised his sheep around Little and Big Sheep Creeks (Hmmmm... Wonder how they got their names?). He also raised them in the Eagle Cap Wilderness, and had the mountain, Pete's Point, named after him. During his sheepfarming career he hired Dave Tucker, one of the men who robbed the bank in Joseph. I wonder if the road is named after him...? So as you can see, this barn, and the surrounding area, is full of history!
The cache itself is a mixed nuts container with some swag in it, including a nice lock for FTF if they choose to take it.
