Geocache Description:

Pedro Cottonwood is Peter Cottontail's distant cousin.

When Pedro is in town, he likes to stay here -- in the quiet forest, near all these fluffy, cotton-like thistles.
Rumour has it, this trail may have been named after him.

Pedro loves all the flowering prickly plants in the spring, and hoppin' down the bunny trails in the summer, the soft thistledown in the fall, and playing in the freshly fallen and undisturbed snow in the winter.

Pedro doesn't know anything about all those strange egg-hiding stories, so you won't find any here.

The cache is located in the relatively untraveled northwest part of Beaudry Park, along the Cottonwood Trail. On most days, you will be able to enjoy this entire part of the forest all by yourself, as it doesn't get many visitors.

Parking is located off Highway #1 (Portage Avenue) at the posted waypoint. The road is passable throughout the winter, but we would recommend you wait for park staff to clear it after snowfalls and storms before attempting it.
Please do not block the gate with your vehicle.

You can access the Cottonwood Trail from the parking area by following the berm (but there are quite a few fallen trees to navigate) or by crossing the small ditch and traveling along the east edge of the farmer's field (it's a flattened "trail" that leads directly into the park - it appears the park maintenance personnel access the trail system this way).

In the winter, access is also available from the south part of the park via the Elm Trail.

The park is very winter-friendly, so this cache is as well.
In the winter months, please do not walk, hike, or snowshoe along the groomed cross-country ski trails, as per park policy.

A provincial park pass is required year-round. A pass cannot be obtained onsite.

For more information about Beaudry Provincial Park, please visit MB Parks and Natural Areas.

Pedro Cottonwood has the permission of the District Park Supervisor to stay here while he's visiting his cousin.
