Monumentul comemoreaza 1600 de ofiteri romani cazuti eroic pe campul de lupta in frunte cu generalul Dragalina in primul razboi mondial
Eremia-Teofil Grigorescu (n. 28 noiembrie 1863, Golășei, lângă Târgu Bujor, în prezent cartier al acestui oraș - d. 21 iulie 1919, București) a fost un militar și om politic român, general de divizie. A fost decorat cu Ordinul Mihai Viteazul, clasa a doua.
În perioada 30 iulie 1917 - 1 iulie 1918, generalul de divizie Eremia Grigorescu a îndeplinit funcția de comandant al Armatei 1.
În timpul primului război mondial a comandat armatele române în bătălia de la Mărășești. Ulterior, a fost ministru de război în perioada octombrie - noiembrie 1918 în guvernul lui Constantin Coandă.

The monument commemorates the 1600 Roman officer who died heroically on the battlefield led by General Dragalina in WWI.
Eremia Grigorescu-Theophilus (b. November 28, 1863, Gola, near Târgu Peony currently neighborhood of this city - died July 21, 1919, Bucharest) was a Romanian soldier and politician, general of division. He was awarded the Order of Michael the Brave, second class.
Between July 30, 1917 - July 1st 1918 Eremia Grigorescu served as commander of the 1st Army.
During World War commanded the Romanian army in the Battle of Mărăşeşti. Later, he was Minister of War during October-November 1918 in the government of Constantin Coanda.
