Geocache Description:

The Captain Fawcett Commemorative 4WD Track begins at Dawn Creek Road and travels some 90km through beautiful Jarrah forests, with some magnificent views along the way. There is also historic farmhouses & even some old trestle bridges made by the original settlers around the 1860's. The track emerges onto the Harvey-Quindanning Road where you can follow past the renowned Long Gully Bridge and ending up in the township of Quindannning.

Captain Theo Fawcett set out circa 1860 to see what land he could find, using the Murray River as a guide and then north up the Hotham River. Fawcett found a spring (called "Mokine" by the aboriginals) and took up 5000 acres here, before then acquiring another 6000 as a lease. Fawcett was later granted forty pounds to build the first road along this alignment.

This cache is placed midway along the section of track between the beginning & the Long Gully Bridge. It is a slight diversion of the Calona Form, but is it well worth a visit. Another great spot for a swim too. It is an easy drive during the dryer months, but definate 4WD in the wet. This track can be closed in extreme wet periods.

We hope you enjoy the track as much as we do… You are looking for a 100mm PVC screw top container. Please ensure that the cache is placed back how you found it, as it could easily be discovered by muggles looking for firewood in the area.

Congratulations on an adventurous FTF Moneybox... Well Done!
