Geocache Description:

The Escalator to Nowhere is a very long/high escalator that leads straight up to nowhere. When a person gets to the top, he falls off it, as it leads to nowhere.

It can be found in the fictional town of Springfield, home of The Simpsons. Other notoriously-useless transportation features in Springfield are the unsuccessful monorail line, the abandoned subway system, as well as the ever-lasting Springfield Tire Fire. Other ignominious tourist "attractions" include the Springfield Lemon Tree and the Springfield Mystery Spot, which successfully nauseates over 650 paying customers per year.

The Escalator to Nowhere made it's appearance on the Season 4 episode entitled "Marge vs. the Monorail".

The episode ends with Marge explaining that the monorail was the last folly Springfield ever had ... except for the popsicle-stick skyscraper ... and the 50-foot magnifying glass ... and the escalator to nowhere...

You are looking for a standard rectangular Lock 'n Lock; a large small, or a small regular.
Be careful and know your limits!

The cache is located in the relatively untraveled northwest part of Beaudry Park, along the Cottonwood Trail. On most days, you will be able to enjoy this entire part of the forest all by yourself, as it doesn't get many visitors.

Parking is located off Highway #1 (Portage Ave) at the posted waypoint. The road is passable throughout the winter, but we would recommend you wait for park staff to clear it after snowfalls and storms before attempting it.
Please do not block the gate.

You can access the Cottonwood Trail from the parking area by following the berm (but there are quite a few fallen trees to navigate) or by crossing the small ditch and traveling along the east edge of the farmer's field (it's a flattened "trail" that leads directly into the park - it appears the park maintenance personnel access the trails this way).

In the winter, access is also available from the south part of the park via the Elm Trail.

The cache is very winter-friendly, just like the park.
In the winter months, there is no walking, hiking, or snowshoeing along the groomed cross-country ski trails, as per park policy.

A provincial park pass is required year-round. A pass cannot be obtained onsite.

This cache placement has been approved by the District Park Supervisor.
