[ITA] Veneland venne creato nella seconda metà degli anni '70 sulla scia del successo di altri parchi dell'epoca. Un piccolo parco tematico sulla città di Venezia, diverso dai luna park tradizionali e piccolo surrogato per chi non poteva andare in America a vedere Disneyland, era una novità assoluta all'epoca.
Varcando il singolare ingresso a forma di Ponte di Rialto, si entrava in un parco a tema in piena regola, seppure con le limitazioni di oltre 30 anni fa. Tra le attrazioni figuravano le “Macchine Bella Epoque”, il “Treno del Safari”, “L’Arca di Noè”, e poi un rettilario, l’acquario ed altre attrazioni tipiche degli spettacoli viaggianti, dato che i soci fondatori del parco venivano dalla tradizione dello spettacolo viaggiante. C’erano poi delle aree tematiche, come “La vecchia fattoria”, il “Fortino”, il “Villaggio indiani” ed il “Villaggio western”, con tanto di spettacolo dei Cow Boys e maneggio. Era presente anche un lago artificiale con tanto di porticciolo. Il parco era in parte coperto; vi sorgevano una birreria e pizzeria, una sala per le manifestazioni, il palazzetto del ghiaccio ed una sala spettacoli dedicata ai bambini. In fianco ai capannoni c’era un’area barbecue. Il parco era frequentatissimo, con lunghe code e ingorghi di auto nei week-end; per gli abitanti del posto si trattò di una vera rivoluzione nel campo del divertimento e gli affari cominciarono a girare.
Ma l'avventura durò ben poco: già nel 1980 il parco chiuse i battenti, per cause che tutt'ora sembrano essere un po' vaghe. La causa ufficiale sembra essere che, nonostante i sostanziosi guadagni già dal primo anno, i proprietari non ritennero il loro progetto sufficientemente remunerativo e quindi lo abbandonarono, preferendo tornare alla (all’epoca) più remunerativa professione di giostrai.
Da allora le strutture sono state abbandonate e le attrezzature rimaste sono divenute così facile preda di visitatori che hanno spogliato il parco di ogni suppellettile presente. Attualmente, del complesso resta solamente un capannone e il vistoso arco d'entrata.
Il fotografo veneziano Alvise Busetto ha publicato un reportage fotografico sul sito, mentre su Facebook c’è una pagina ricca di foto a testimonianza di come Veneland, oltre che oasi notturna di sbandati e coppiette, sia diventato un vero e proprio paradiso dei writers.
[ENG] Veneland was a small theme park created in the mid '70s. Dealing with the city of Venice, different from the traditional funfair and a small surrogate for those who could not get to America to see Disneyland, it was a great novelty at the time.
Entering the main gate shaped like the Rialto Bridge, one would enter into a full-fledged theme park, even with the limitations of the time. The attractions included the "Belle Epoque Cars", the "Safari Train", "Noah's Ark", and then a reptile house, an aquarium and other attractions typical of traveling shows, since the founders of the park came from the tradition of the traveling show. Then there were the thematic areas, such as the "old farm", the "Fort", the "Indian Village" and "Far West village", with a Cow Boys show and horse riding. There was also a man-made lake with a marina. The park was partly covered, and hosted a brewery and pizzeria, a hall for events, an ice rink and an auditorium for children. Beside the warehouses there was a barbecue area. The park was very popular, with long lines of cars and traffic jams on weekends; for the locals it was a real revolution in the field of entertainment and business began to go.
But the adventure was to be short-lived: in 1980 the park closed, due to reasons that still seem to be a bit nebulous. The official cause seems to be that, despite the substantial gains in the first year, the owners did not retain their project profitable enough and then abandoned it, preferring to go back to the (at the time) more profitable profession of carnies.
Since then the structures were abandoned and the equipments become an easy prey of the visitors, who stripped the park of all major appliances. Currently, the complex is made up only of an uncovered shed and the flashy entrance arch.
Photographer Venetian Alvise Busetto has published a photo essay on the site, and a Facebook page displays a lot of pictures demonstrating how Veneland, as well as nightlife oasis for misfits and couples, has become a veritable paradise for writers .
