I had what I thought was a really good idea for a puzzle cache. Unfortunately, after giving it some more thought, talking with some friends and seeing that just about no one was able to solve it, I began to realize that it was waaaaay too hard. So, I'm replacing it with another puzzle that should be much easier. This type of puzzle goes by several names, Calcudoku, Mathdoku and a couple of others that are trademarked so I won't mention them to try to stay out of trouble.
The objective in the following puzzle is to fill the grid in with the digits 1 through 9 such that: • Each row contains exactly one of each digit • Each column contains exactly one of each digit • Each bold-outlined group of cells is a cage containing digits which achieve the specified result using the specified mathematical operation: addition (+), subtraction (−), multiplication (×), and division (÷). If you need help in getting started, solving strategies can be found on-line.
