Bill Murray and Chevy Chase definitely have a long list of great comedic film roles, not to mention their time on SNL. Could you imagine someone besides Chevy as Clark W. Griswold in the Vacation films, or Bill as Dr. Peter Venkman in Ghostbusters? But i've wondered...which one is my favorite, and who had the better career?
Bill's filmography is like a 3 act play, the first act as a lovable goofball in films like Meatballs, Caddyshack, Stripes, Ghostbusters, What about Bob?, Scrooged and Groundhog Day. The second act included some very forgettable film roles which led him to be more selective and brought upon the third act where he's done more serious work and teamed up to make quirky comedies with Wes Anderson.
Chevy had a similar start with films like Caddyshack, Modern Problems, Spies Like Us, Three Amigos, Funny Farm and of course the Vacation films and the Fletch trilogy. And he was far more memorable on SNL, "I'm Chevy Chase and you're not!". Then he too had a big slump until recently when he seemed to embrace his goofy side that made him famous and joined the cast of the tv show Community as the eccentric Pierce Hawthorn.
So to answer my own question I pick Chevy (who doesn't watch Christmas Vacation over and over it's a family tradition!). So make your pick, sign their log, and when you claim your smiley feel free to add what your favorite movie is of theirs and your favorite line too!Hope you enjoy the cache.
