--ITA-- Apertura: dall'alba al tramonto Il Torrione prenestino si trova al II miglio della via Prenestina all'interno dell'area urbana del Pigneto, nella parte relativa al quartiere Q.VI Tiburtino. Si tratta di una tomba della tipologia a tumulo risalente all'ultimo quarto del I secolo a.C., consistente in un ampio tamburo circolare in calcestruzzo romano (originariamente interamente lastricato di marmo) che racchiude al centro la cella sepolcrale in travertino; il suo diametro di 62 metri la rende la più grande in estensione a Roma dopo il Mausoleo di Augusto a piazza Augusto Imperatore e la Mole Adriana (Castel Sant'Angelo). In origine esisteva un corridoio coperto con soffitto a volta che collegava la cella mortuaria all'ingresso esterno della tomba, rivolto verso la strada; l'intero spazio compreso nelle mura esterne veniva quindi riempito di terra per tutta l'altezza del tamburo esterno e andava a crescere verso il centro del monumento, in modo che il terrapieno venisse a formare una sorta di cono; sopra la camera mortuaria centrale veniva posta una colonna che fuoriusciva dal vertice del cono del terrapieno e sopra questa veniva infine posta la canonica statua del defunto in abiti ufficiali. Il 29 dicembre del 2010, dopo due anni di lavori di restauro, il monumento (rinforzato nella parete esterna) e l'annesso parco sono stati riaperti al pubblico. L'area, ampliata a 8000 metri quadrati e dotata di servizi standard, è stata resa più fruibile grazie ad un collegamento pedonale diretto con la via Prenestina. --ENG-- Opening hours: dawn to dusk Prenestino Tower is located on the second mile of the Prenestina way within the urban area of Pigneto, in part related to the district Q.VI Tiburtino. It is a mounds type of tomb dating from the last quarter of the first century BC, consisting of a large circular drum in Roman concrete (originally entirely paved with marble), which contains the sepulchral cell in the center of travertine, its diameter of 62 meters making it the largest extension in Rome after the Mausoleum of Augustus in Piazza Augusto Imperatore and Hadrian (Castel Sant'Angelo). Originally there was a covered corridor with a vaulted ceiling that connected the morgue at the entrance of the tomb, facing the street, the entire space included in the outer walls was then filled with earth for the full height of the outer drum and was to grow towards the center of the monument, so that the embankment was to form a sort of cone, above the central burial chamber was placed a column that sticking out from the top of the cone, above the embankment, and on this was finally placed the statue of the deceased in the canonical clothes officers. On December 29, 2010, after two years of renovation, the monument (reinforced in the outer wall) and the adjoining park were reopened to the public. The area was expanded to 8,000 square meters and equipped with standard amenities, has been made more accessible thanks to a direct pedestrian link with the Prenestina way.
