Alomancers "burn" (metabolize metals in the body for magical powers) ingested metals, thereby enhancing various physical and mental capacities.
An aluminum allomancer is referred to as a gnat or an aluminum gnat. A Mistborn that burns aluminum causes all of their other metal reserves to be drained instantly, leaving them powerless.
