The Mayan's were one of the great ancient groups of people and probably the most advanced civilization in the America pre-colonization. They had a written language, advanced architecture, a strong mathematical understanding, and highly accurate astronomical predictions. Unfortunately they were pretty much wiped off the map when the conquistadors came over. We are still learning a lot about their history and knowledge. This time last year there were many who were worried that the world would come to an end based on an ancient Mayan calendar. Turns out they were wrong the Mayans just ran out of stone. Below is a picture of a tablet recently found that prophesies a treasure. Maybe the Mayans got this one right.
