Horton Ridge Summit Traditional Cache

This cache is a small lock-and-lock container located on top of Horton Ridge, a tree covered ridge Northeast of Horton Hill. My route from parking through Horton Hill to the ridge was an 8 kilometer round trip with an elevation gain of 500-600 meters.

The hike to the summit of Horton Ridge involves some steep hiking, bushwhacking, a lot of deadfall navigation and some routefinding. I approached from the Southwest from Horton Hill. If coming this way, follow my additional waypoints as guides to the summit. The waypoints indicate 3 very nice viewpoints up to the summit.

Gillean Daffern's "Kananaskis Country Trail Guide" route to Horton Ridge Summit (Ridge 413572) goes through Horton Hill as I have described. It is likely possible to approach from the closer col to the Northeast, however this route will be very steep with lots of deadfall, as explained in Daffern's book. I recommend coming from Horton Hill.
