North Road Bridge
Looking at this photo, you'd think that this is just another ordinary bridge. You'd be wrong however. Stand underneath this bridge and look closely and you'll see the original Victorian Bridge which has been entwined with not so glamours modern architecture to widen same for the demands of todays society.
Underneath the bridge, you are also standing on the old BCDR main line to Comber which opened in 1845. The line remained open until 1950 when drastic cuts were made to all of Northern Ireland's railways. The rails and sleepers were soon lifted and in recent years has been changed into the popular seven-mile walking and cycling route of the Comber Greenway.
The BCDR Remnants #2 - North Road Bridge Cache
Stage 1: The co-ordinates in this listing take you to the top of the steps at the North Road bridge.
a) Count the total number of steps here and call your answer AB.
Final: The final co-ordinates can be found at:-
N 54 35.(AB x 12) + (A x 6) / W 005 52.(AB x 16) - (A x 5)
Example, if AB = 34 then the final is at:- N 54 35.(34 x 12 = 408) + (3 x 6 = 18) so 408 + 18 = 426 hence N 54 35.426 / W 005 52.(34 x 16 = 544) - (3 x 5 = 15) so 544 - 15 = 529 hence W 005 52.529
At the final GZ, please be 'muggle aware' as cyclists and runners can come upon you with little notice. You are looking for a micro sized container containing a log only so please bring your own pen. The final few metres to the cache take you off the main path and appropriate footwear should be worn. Please rehide the cache carefully.
Enjoy this little piece of victorian history.
