This Puzzle Cache is based on the National Treasure blockbusters, starring Nicolas Cage and Diane Kruger. These were some of my favorite movies as a kid and I still enjoy them today. The films focus on an American historian turned treasure hunter who uses clues from American History to find, well... treasure naturally!
Fortunately, you shouldn’t have to steal the Declaration of Independence or kidnap the President of the United States to find this one.
"What was the secret?"
"A treasure! A treasure beyond all imagining. A treasure that had been fought over for centuries by tyrants, pharaohs, emperors, warlords."
- Young Benjamin Franklin Gates and John Adams Gates
Annuit cœptis... Novus ordo seclorum, "He favors our undertaking... The new order of ages"
This cache has clues and references to both National Treasure and National Treasure: Book of Secrets. However, it is NOT necessary to see the movies to find this geocache. You just have to solve the riddle and decipher the code.
This is not intended to be the most difficult Puzzle Cache in the world. I wanted to make this one more interesting and educational. This should be a fun geocache the whole family can enjoy... It is, after all, based on a Disney franchise... If you get stuck, just message me and I'll be happy to assist.
The listed coordinates are just the starting point. You have to use the clues in Dr. Borek's email to access the field puzzle.
Note: Decipher the coded document below before heading out to the field.
Dear Benjamin Gates,
I desperately need your help! I found an old document as well as a map of the Central Coast of California. It appears to show the location of a treasure hidden by Freemasons that moved out west many years ago.
I went to the location indicated on the map, however, I found nothing. There must be something more to it. I'm assuming the document provides more clues as to the treasure's whereabouts. Unfortunately, the document is an encryption and I've never been good with secret codes. I was hoping you could be of assistance. I have photographed the document and attached it to this email.
Please, Ben. I really need your help to find this treasure. This is an opportunity for you to, once again, make your mark on history. Would you be willing to accept this challenge?
I wish you the best of luck old friend.
