Every month, the moon swings out to lunar apogee – the farthest point in its orbit – and then some two weeks later swings to lunar perigee – the closest point to Earth in the moon’s orbit. Whenever the full moon coincides with apogee, we have an apogee full moon – or Micro Moon. We often call the January full moon the Old Moon, Moon after Yule or Wolf Moon. But the Micro Moon – the year’s smallest full moon – is a moveable feast, and is not bound to a particular month or season. The Micro Moon returns about 48 days later with each passing year, meaning the Micro Moon will recur in 2015 on March 5, and then in 2016 on April 22, and then in 2017 on June 9. The Micro Moon – the smallest full moon of the year – comes on January 16, 2014, at precisely 4:52 GMT
To celebrate this, arrive at the "sticky out bit" at 04.45, at 04:50 point at the moon and howl ! Then just disapear into the night again as if nothing had happened!
