Geocache Description:

FlyingPig85 loves to travel!  She is naming her caches after airports around the world she’s flown into or out of and not the actual location of the caches.

PIT has been in existence since March 1944 when it was built as part of the WPA’s (Works Progress Administration) military airport growth plan.  Its first flight as a commercial entity was in June 1952 and at the time it was the second largest airport terminal in the US (Idlewild Airport, which is now JFK, was the largest).

This airport was designed by a local architect names Joseph W. Hoover.  One of the memorable features of the lobby was the large compass laid in the floor with the green and yellow-orange terrazzo.  A replica of this compass is located in the new main terminal.

PIT lies 16 miles northwest of downtown Pittsburgh and served over eight million passengers in 2012.  There are four terminals (A, B, C, & D) which house 50 gates.  On the four runways and one heliport, 12 airlines fly 155 non-stop flights per day to 37 destinations.  It also provides non-stop service to Paris.

One of the interesting things about PIT is that it claims it is within a 90-minute flight of 70 percent of North America's population.

This is a microcache, for which you’ll need some sort of extraction tool.  You will also need to bring a pen, as the cache is small and does not have one.
