Geocache Description:

This cache is a 750ml screwtop container hidden 1m off the ground. It replaces the missing Town Oval cache that was located a little closer to the oval but had a history of being muggled.

It is important that you replace the cache off the ground where you found it so that the muggle kids don't find it.

NOTE: if you are in a hurry and finding caches as a numbers game OR are not prepared to take the time to replace the cache properly..... then our caches are not for you... please try somewhere else.

CAPEL Latitude 33 33 S Longitude 115 34 E

Situated 17 miles south of Bunbury on the Capel River after which it is named. The Capel River was discovered by F. Ludlow in1834, but no name was applied, and it was not until Lt. H W Bunbury on the 17th December 1836 quotes crossing a considerable river with steep banks, hitherto unknown to colonists which he says was afterwards named the "Capel" by Mr Bussell after a cousin, Miss Capel Carter.
Plans to establish a townsite here were first noted in 1844, and the place was given its Aboriginal name "Coolingnup". The townsite was surveyed in the 1870's, but lots were not sold until 1897. The townsite name was changed from Coolingnup to Capel in 1899.

Now the town of Capel forms the beating heart of a thriving agricultural district that has evolved in recent times from traditional dairy, beef and fruit farming roots to include viticulture, wines and an international exporter of processed dairy products. Close to town is the only remaining naturally occurring Tuart Forest in the world, home to a diverse range of flora and fauna.

It’s a short pleasant walk to the cache. Even though it gets quite busy here sometimes you have a bit bush of cover when you get there. The area is kept clean and mowed until you get close to the cache. There is a small bridge over the creek right by the cache.
